I've just bought some ping pong balls, how can i know what is nitrocellulose, so that i don't bye some plastic shit. Is nitrocellulose a good replacement for smokeless powder in making ap-putty?

SP is better, but that will work (if you bought the wright ones). I think you just have to mix it with acetone. Just read the Makeshift Arsenal (dont know if it gots ping-pong ball info in it, but it does have the procedure for AP putty).

There are two simple tests

Try to light one of the balls. When the ball takes fire easily and burn with a big, orange flame, it is nitrocellulose.
Pour some acetone over one of the balls. When they soften and dissolve, it's nitrocellulose.
When both tests are positive, you can use the ping pong balls, they are certainly the right ones.

Yes it should harden within a few hours, depending on the size of the lump of putty. I've never had any problems using ping pong balls (beside the expense).

I never had problems with this too... you mustn't use too much aceton... just enough to get it to a consitence like thin honey

The smaller the place it touches the air the longer you will wait... I would make a paper tube of the same diameter put it in and dry it then insert it into the pipe...

Acetone disolves PVC, abeit slowy but never the less you should take precautions or you could have problems.

I used a paper matchbox, to mold the putty in, it worked.
