I currently have nearly 20 pounds of red iron oxide(Fe2O3) sitting in my garage, however this is not optimal for thermite. My thermite burns much hotter when I use black iron oxide(Fe3O4), so I was wondering if there is a way to turn Fe2O3 into Fe3O4. I already tried adding some steel-wool and peroxide to the Red oxide, but that only produced more red oxide.
Is this reaction possible or do I have to waste more money on black?
A Google search turned up nothing relating to this :(
