FTPs seem to come and go fairly quick, I think a few people need to seed these files on the P2P networks. P2p will be around longer than single FTPs.

I am currently sharing some of these files on emule/edonkey network with a fast connection. If anyone wants to help me, reply here. I need someone with lastest files to help too.

It seems to me people are downloading but not sharing with them with others. It takes a while to seed these files, but once they are out there, everyone will be able access them easily. Slowly but surely people are downloading these files.

I need new content too. Currently I have about 700mb of PDF set to release. I can't stay connected all the time either, so this is why I need others to help. I also share other files too, so you may have to be patient.

I was also thinking if people have a large amount of files and access to CD-R then we can send out a distro to people willing to help seed these files with a fast connection on emule.

If there is no interest I will cease to share them.

The advantage of an FTP is that you have a list of all available files. Maybe there are ebooks or other media out there which you would be interested in but haven't heard of yet. An up-to-date list of all E&W related shares that we know of could be helpful, though. As it is the case with most filesharing programs, security is an issue if you publicly post your shares and use your forum username as your emule nick - it's a matter of seconds to find out your IP.

Apart from that, filesharing programs are a good addition to the FTP, but I don't see them as a substitute because there are still people who are on dial-up and have to pay minute-by-minute which is a pain in the ass if your download takes hours to start and weeks to finish when you try to get rare files.

I hear what you are saying, but with an FTP aren't you "giving" away your IP anyway?

Yes, but you can choose more selectively who will get it, usually not more than one single person.

Either way eMule is great. I havent seen so many unique book titles on any network (besides DC) - some really interesting stuff in there - I've been kinda devoted to Direct Connect for the past year but the P2P systems are starting to rev up now very nice. If anyone knows anymore good filesharing networks carrying hard to find literature please tell. Downloading Federoff as I post this.

The problem with emule is that it's a pain in the ass to download files. In some cases it takes weeks to download the files. The ftp is much faster and has a very good selection of files.

The FTP is not necessarily faster. I only got 2-3 kB/s when I downloaded from the FTP last time, and eMule can reach speeds like 20-30 kB/s when downloading a well-spread file. It all depends on how many people have the file you want, and like I said, FTP is a good choice especially for rare files IMHO.

I have the same problem with eMule, being slow and all. I think the songs tend to download faster, but I really don't give a rat's ass about songs either.
Kazaalite seems to go a lot faster for me, but it also has a smaller selection, and what it does have is usually easily found on the net.
As far as the FTP goes, I wouldn't really know... :(

I use bittorent for anything large. www.suprnova.org has a great selection of tracers and ABC (another bittorent client) works well and can be found here http://sourceforge.net/projects/pingpong-abc/

I triedd suprnova before but I didn't found any information about e&w. They are more dedicated to movies, music and games.

Okay I have re-writen this like five times and allways when I'm done I have the same over all feeling. People are leeches and there is nothing that can be done about it. I would not mind trying to set up a distributed decenteralized file sharing network up between the members. But everything like that requires so much in the way of security and and constant observers being present and are a pain to set up.

File sharing is a good tool, and if more where into sharing rather then leeching. It would all be even better.

All of the file sharing systems have their strengths and weaknesses. Kazaa gives fairly consistent speeds, and an immediate download, but only for small music files. Edonkey often takes days or weeks to complete a file, but you can find many text files and warez. Direct Connect offers a massive source for rare files, texts, warez, and media, but you will end up uploading 10x what you download assuming you have enough files to share to begin with. Bittorrent is a wonderful source for current movies and games, but that's about it.

The FTP is at least consistent in what it offers, and although slower than other clients, offers an always on 24/7 connection of a range of files that you know are related to scientific or explosives. No porn, no games, no movies, no music, no crap files, just knowledge pure and simple.

If you desire to disseminate information than by all means share the files you download on edonkey or kazaa so that they trickle down unto the masses. I have downloaded many books from Edonkey made by Forum members; the names may have been changed, but they are our files. They are out there and the government can't stop them now. They might track the source of this or that site offering the content, but they can't control how those files are redistributed to the masses. ALL of the content on the FTP originated somewhere else, so I know all this stuff exists out there somewhere in cyberspace. The FTP, Edonkey, Direct Connect, Bittorent, Kazaa, and all the rest are not the beginnings or ends of the content stream, they are just links in the chain...

I'm currently using Shareaza among others. I have came accross several "[Explosives.and.Weapons]" and then files that are on the FTP's.
I'm curious who started that? I'm grabing all of them that are out their, so as that I too can act as a static host for them. Just as I had started in the thread in the links and lit section, I am trying to find ways enwhich we all can share a littel bandwidth. To also ask like a dinner, where some one takes a little for them selves, but then pass it off the the next person. A way enwhich we each can donate some bandwidth.

We collectively are the last vestige of hope for a free and unrestrained exchange of information, for our respective area. I will not see us fail.
