Carnivore is no more

I know some of you probly know about the internet survelance system known as 'Carnivore', which brought up all sorts of civil liberties issues, etc. Apparently, it is now defunct. This being a forum populated by conspiracy theorists, I was wondering if anyone actually believed this? I mean, isn't the best way to deal with something this complex that works yet is unpopular is to hint it has problems for a little while and then 'scrap' it in a public announcement? Or, conversely, am I merely being paranoid, which is entirely likely.

Because of editing I will add my opinion. I believe they have retired it in lieu of something better. Now I just need to find out about what is new and better so I can protect myself :D

It's easy enough to lower your 'RADAR signature' to Carnivor if you need to.
