I've searched on this topic but nothing really interresting came up.
I hate to post new topics but I have a few questions about it.
I found the recipe on Mr. Cool's site it's made with 37%formaline urea 50%sulphuric acid and 30%H2O2(or equivalent)
Tetramethelenediperoxidicarbamide

............. -(CH2)-O-O-(CH2)-..........
..CO(NH2)-N .....................N-CO(NH2)
............. -(CH2)-O-O-(CH2)-..........

This should be more stable than hmtd as Mr. Cool suggests as the N atom is less stressed than with hmtd as anyone experience with this explosive

i'm interested! :)

I will get some Urea this week, and try it out.
Does anyone has the Brisance and det. VoD?

I want to know more about it too !
I can get Formaline and H2SO4 and H2O2 (30%) is allready present in my kitchen :o )

Seems that formaline (formaldehyde solution) is as common as muck in the netherlands. Is it true you can get it at camping stores as a desinfectant?
Anyway, if you have methanol it's very easy to make it yourself.

hahahaha, u can extract urea from your piss...

Here in the Netherlands you can get Formaline in agrarical (this is not good engelish...i think :( )shops for farmers.
Yes, it's used as a desinfectant. I can get it in 40% (I'am not shure how pure it is)

but....how can you make Formaline from Methanol?
I have Methanol. Here you can buy it here in a outdoor shop.
It's used for alcoholic fireburner.

If I can make it from Methanol, than I know it must be pure

i think you need to carry out partial oxidation with potassium dichromate and concentrated H2SO4. the procedure requires heating under reflux so its not that easy for the home chemist unless you have access to the glassware. there will also be methanoic acid impurities.

Whell I see a flaw in my chemical structure the N atoms should not be there I think I just presumed it wa sort of similar to hmtd and in a way it is. But maybe Mr. Cool has tried it as it is from his website

Simple Red made TMDD,he told me that it burned like CTAP and it's dead pressed very easely he tought that it whas a bad explosive.

hey, is Simply RED around anymore?

Whell I would try it but as I can't get urea that easily I think I will trust simply red's data and abandon this explosive, until I find some easy sorce of urea.

PS mister evil did you try it and if so how did it went.

I chatted with Simply Red one month ago and he told me that he had an accident involving AP. And he also had other accident for which he (he's parents) had to pay over 100 bucks and these problems made him leaving the pyro field forever. And he is also very occupied because he is learning for the university.

I remember that he said about TMDD that the report produced is weaker than the a BP report.

The last time i chatted with him was this month.
a_bab do you mean the acid over the car thing or did he have another accident?

Come on guys, this thread isn't a missing persons inquiry...

I never tried TMDD in the end, because I heard about how badly it sucked from Simply Red's experiments.

Heating copper wool till it's black and than dumping it into methanol should produce methanal (=formaldehyde). You'll have to repeat it several times and watch out for the vapors.

i guess CuO will work to(as CuO is formed when heating Cu until it becomes dark)

CuO + 2CH3OH ---> 2CH3O + H2O + Cu
is that right?...i've never heard of this reaction...but then i haven't heard of many

Mr Cool

Either that, or maybe the CuO is just a catalyst in the dehydrogenation of the alcohol? I don't know.
If it was just a catalyst then you could probably get a nice continuous setup put together to make aldehydes dirt-cheap...
But if the CuO was a reagent then you'd have to keep replacing it, which is a major hassle for lazy people like me

ah, true. but not if you made your KNO2 via copper powder :)
KNO3 + Cu ---> KNO2 + CuO

edit: forgot to mention the actual point - CuO is made in the process :)
