I am testing a new torrent tracker at Rogue Science called ScienceTorrents. The software is now active, but is still undergoing testing to work out the bugs. The tracker will require you to sign up seperatly since it is not integrated in any way with The Forum. I hope to remedy this unfortunate situation in the near future, but for now that’s the way it is.

There are no rules FOR NOW. Once I see how the kewls abuse the system I will begin applying rules and restrictions. The categories and such are default, so don’t expect games and pr0n to remain for long.

I don’t care what you upload or how you use it for the time being. Please use it and try to break it. Obviously settings will be changing frequently, so some factors may not necessarily be a bug. Use this thread to report anything and make setting suggestions.

I have one lonely torrent set up right now to test this sucker. Please download and seed it so I can gauge system performance.

A few facts you might want to know about the software:

UPLOADING TORRENTS: You must use our announce url when making a new torrent. The address is http://roguesci.org/sciencetorrents/announce.php
Every page has a link named “upload” that has the necessary details to follow. There is a sticky thread in this section about making torrents that is now somewhat out of date. You will need to make a new torrent for any file you wish to upload to ScienceTorrents

OUTSIDE TORRENTS ARE NOT ENABLED: These are not yet supported; you must use our tracker http://roguesci.org/sciencetorrents/announce.php for all torrents. You cannot upload any outside torrent, nor can you use a torrent from the ScienceTorrents tracker at another website.

YOU MUST MAKE AND USE A USER ACCOUNT: You need to sign up to ScienceTorrents and be logged in to download any torrents. The tracker uses a ratio based system to keep out the lechers. This account is different from Rogue Science. Although I would prefer you use your Forum username, that is not necessary since I can’t stop you from doing it anyway.

YOU MUST HAVE A VALID EMAIL TO SIGN UP: All user accounts are verified just like signing up to The Forum. I don’t care if you use a throwaway account, it just has to work long enough for you to click the verification link in the email. Please be advised many junk filters like to catch auto generated emails like the ones from here, so check your trash heap or enable roguesci.org emails to pass through.

RATIO’s AND WAIT TIMES SHOULD BE DISABLED: For now, and I emphasize for now, there is no ratio system, and no waiting time. The tracker is a leechers paradise for now. It would do no good to start banning people for having low ratios since we have no torrents.

PLEASE REPORT ANY PROBLEMS HERE: If you find something that doesn’t smell right, please please please make a post here. I can’t fix it if I don’t know what’s wrong.

In case you didn’t catch the link above, the address of ScienceTorrents is sciencetorrents.roguesci.org

One more thing, there is a test torrent called “Test File” located in the misc section. It is the only torrent right now, so it should be easy to find. Just in case you can’t locate it, the direct address is http://sciencetorrents.roguesci.org/torrents-details.php?id=1
Please download and seed this torrent. It is just a simple text file to help me determine if this puppy is working. If you cannot download it, leech it, or seed it I want to know! Please seed this file until further notice to help me out.

I am seeding the above torrent right now. Also, I just made a torrent of my chemistry e-books (318.80 MB). I normally shut my computer off at night; otherwise, I would like to see if it works for anyone else.

Downloaded and am seeding the test file. Since you have no put any restrictions on the files to be uploaded, can we assume that they are to at least be somewhat related to this forum?

Klassasin, If ya want, you can Rapidshare them or something, and I will seed them on the tracker, I rarely turn this comp off.

Relevant is indeed a point to be followed.

There's thousands of places offering warez and porn, but how many can offer torrents of Federoff and Urbanski?

Then NBK, may I ask if what could/should be done is that the best scans of the Urbanski/Federoff files be collected in one place and then seeded through the Torrent system?

I know I have seen several complete collections on the FTP server, so I am wondering if this is a logical extension of that.

I just uploaded a fairly large collection of books (4.79 GB) and there will be another one shortly (4.36 GB) so download away.

Tried the torrent tracker, only the most recent upload is there (the 4.36GB rar mentioned above), none of the others are shown. Below the list is the error:

MYSQL Error has occurred!

There is a problem with the database, possibly a corrupt table, missing field/column or bad syntax.

Chris The Great, I as well was wondering what is wrong with the torrent tracker. All the torrents that are linked to from the forum seem to be none existant.

So is it under construction or was it just not very popular?

I am also getting a mysql error with only the last uploaded torrent showing.
There is also a lot of broken images and missing info around the page.
Hope it gets fixed soon as it will be an excellent resource.

I am waiting for the iminent release of the integrated vbulletin torrent tracker. This will allow cross database sharing of membership details to The Forum for the tracker. Obviously the one we have now isn't all it's cracked up to be.

The new tracker display at the top of every page makes the pages go wide, requiring scrolling back n' forth to read 'em. :(

Needs a bit of adjustment. ;)

Are you using the Soness theme? The vb one is screwed up, that's why it is not an option for members to view.

Only the soness fixed theme works properly. Fluid and VB standard are stuck on wide. :(

Personally, I detest the new color scheme.

Reminds me of a website dedicated to modifying moms Mazda with aftermarket spoilers on the trunk.
