"Ingenious experiment" with lightning

The author of this paper on lightning must think highly of himself. The third paragraph starts "This ingenious author, from a great variety of curious and well-adapted experiments...." It's very interesting to read.

Considering that the author in question is Benjamin Franklin, I don’t think calling him a scientific genius is too far of a stretch, do you?
