A real friend ( not a "friend") last week made a batch of HMTD with hexamine extracted from fuel tablets only he did it with normal water the hexamine extraction) , wouldn't that be dangerous because of all the metals in the normal tap water (iron, etc) that might react with the complete product??

Thanx in advance...

Not much more than the inherent danger of HMTD. There isn't that much metal in tap water ( assuming you live somewhere with a decent quality water supply ), and HMTD doesn't need impurities to be unstable. If you are looking for a safe explosive HMTD just doesn't cut it, so your first priority should be to find something else.

I made AP and HMTD and i always filtered it with normall tap water,i don't think it will make your product more unstable.

And whe have the cleanest water in the world here http://theforum.virtualave.net/ubb/smilies/biggrin.gif
I heard story's that in country's like Italy you need to boil the water and filter it to drink it (the ppl there are used to it)
Maybe there it's a diverent thing.

i think with the instability of HMTD the small increase in instability due to contamination with tap water would be unnoticable. also there are many more contaminents which would have a much more dramatic effect such as residual acid. wait a sec, could metal hydroxides from the water have a positive effect by helping to neutralise residual acid?.....

Check out some pics on the Forum FTP of some electric caps. Bet you can't tell which ones were made and improperly washed.

So the residual metals in the water shouldn't increase the danger much more than it already is right? ( I mean how could it become more dangerous? -lol- )

Also just a small note: the Hexamine that he had, it smelled a bit "fishy" but with a relatively strong ammonia smell (witch I didn't have in my Hexamine), could this indicate that the Hexamine might be decomposing?? If so what should be the expected shelf-life?? ( I doesn't really matter for me since i usually use it right away... but still!)

Also Microtek your talking about not too unstable primaries, what would that be?! I thought that HMTD already was -relatively- stable ( if not brought in contact with metals... )

Again thanx for any replies past and future!

There are many much more stable primaries than HMTD! Do some research into them. They do require more rare precursors, but it is worth it. I never use peroxides, they are far to dangerous for me ( this is my first post in peroxides, actually I hardly ever look in here http://theforum.virtualave.net/ubb/smilies/smile.gif )
Lead Azide kicks ass! I have always dreamed of using it! http://theforum.virtualave.net/ubb/smilies/smile.gif
