Storing HMTD or other sensitive explosives is a bad idea, I know DADP (di acetone di peroxide) evaporates and recrystallises around the edge of container lids which when opened creates enough friction to detonate.

HMTD on the other hand, even if it doesn’t evaporate the particles could float or be moved in another way around the lid.
