View Full Version : Eliteforum - I find this very questionable

Doesn't this seem very similar to the sort of thing we are against? Duplication of effort at the least - selling information that you didn't create at most.

In my haste I commited an error.

Eliteforum posts on SMDB plugging his website

Adding insult to stealing he makes yet another hive in a manner so similar to the guy that ran synthetihkal

A quote from his site:

"
Due to the site being so new, we have not yet got our book section online, but below is a small sample list of what we will have in stock. Once we are at full capacity, we will have over 1,000 books either for download, or for sale.

Below is a small list of the kind of books we will be hosting and selling. The list shows just a small sample of the kind of books we will be carrying, and the full list that we hope to implement soon is in excess of 1,000!

Blowguns, The Breath of Death

Expedient Breaking and Entering

The Black Book Companion

The Blasters Training Manual

The Chemistry of Powder and Explosives

IRA Explosives Manual

Granddads Wonderful Book of Chemistry
[yet more in the list]
"

I wonder where he got those from and intends to sell?

I believe a copy and paste job would be appropriate here.

EDIT:
I wonder where he got those from and intends to sell?

I don't know but he's going to need a good lawyer when the publishers of those files sue his ass.

Is it time for an invasion? (don't forget to use a junk email)

In that short list of titles are 9 books that I scanned! I'm sure that all mention of their origin has been removed.

As long as the dingdong doesn't sell them, and gives credit for their origin, then it's OK for him to host the files, as that was the intended purpose...to spread the information far and wide.

However, I think we can rest assured that this isn't going to be the case, as he has demonstrated in the past an eagerness to try to cash in on other peoples efforts.

A quick google search shows that this guy's also a painter and decorator :p .

If he's actually selling these texts, I guess that someone could tip off the publishing companies in question...

You bitch about him plugging his website over there and what the *&^% did you just do here? A fool and his money are soon parted, and you would be foolish to pay for something he stole when it can be had for free with a little bit of searching. Such is the nature of the Internet my friends, there is no shortage of websites trying to sell you air :)

Aren't such books illegal for people in the UK to possess? Something about being 'terrorist' manuals or somesuch? ;)

I thought I was supposed to be an ant coming back to the nest or something like that. And how else to prove that what he is doing besides linking?

Bad rep for a posy u made in whimsy

I'm not a even member of Sciencemadness. In fact, my quote, "This forum is password protected" was from SM's "whimsy" forum.

Could this guy be Eliteforum trying to hex me?

Also, I see that we have a new member "CriminallyInclined"* (http://www.roguesci.org/theforum/member.php?u=24703). Coincidence?

Not on their own...I *think* . But that won't stop you being locked up without trial and charged with your car numberplate being 2cm out of place  .

I think there would be some kind of law against selling them, though.

Well, that resolves to cpc5-mfld1-0-0-cust323.nott.cable.ntl.com (nott asin Nottinghamshire), making me think that address up there is probably real. If he does try to sell stuff, just include the date/time of signup(in GMT) and the IP in an email to abuse@ntl.com. They'll take care of the rest I'm sure, since UK has those nice(by nice I mean bad) data retention laws and stuff.

In any case, there's a 'lesson to be learned': don't try to profit off of other peoples work, jackass.

It's inevitable that he'll have chemicals in his house, even if it's completely harmless stuff like aspirin and drain cleaner.

Combined with the books...BOMBZ!! :D
