In my recent search for martial art and camouflage related information, I came across a prototype development of active optical camouflage by a japanese company.

I found this link interesting because the object being camouflaged appears as transparent, but isn't.

Included in a link on the page is a brief explanation of the principle of optical camouflage.

(sorry if it's a bullshit link)

It's not fake, but it is quite useless outside of specific circumstances. There are hundreds of photos of people doing this with laptop screens, too. See http://www.flickr.com/photos/ckemp/7319622/ for example.

To use this in a tactical situation, mount the projector above the door, paint everything white, and project moving camo and figures of people (women and kids) onto it. Then wear a white boiler suit and carry a matt white weapon.

The downside is that the light will be shineing in your eyes. Probably more use for a training system for CQB or something, or if you have a remote gun, to hide that. Think muzzle flash simulation. :-)
