Directions and simple plans for constructing a single-shot, .22cal derringer with a minimal of tools and supplies.

I will be posting a couple of more plans by Jaco. One is a mini-pistol (basically another derringer) and a larger framed single shot, Western Style pistol.

I came to think about this one thing, the pamphlets only name the dimensions of the raw materials and then they assume that you trace the drawings from it. How do I know that the plans are at the right scale? Not even the classic one inch mark on the blueprints, nothing. Does any one have an idea about what to do? I could find my self building the .22 westerner after my own design.

Maybe that was the intention of author, to fool the buyer of book, while being legal, since nobody could build anything from the book.

Actually I think that if you check in the written material, it gives several of the demensions needed. You may have to print out a copy of the diagram, measure the demension on the print and then adjust size and print another copy. May take a couple of tries to get it down perfect. The directions for the derringer even state to cut the parts oversize so they can be hand fitted. I have not gone over these really well. If I get some free time this week, I'll pull them up and see if I can offer anymore assistance.

Why didn't I think of that! That should work. Tough practicaly there are only two measure told in the plans: caliber and barrel length.

If you are now seeing actual alterations in production dimensions or things of that nature, in works published within the last year or so, this is extremely important. Several bills have past into law that deal with the dissemination of information that boarder on direct censorship.

Anything that appears to be altered to make them unworkable, a synthesis unmanageable, or related misinformation should be posted and examined thoughtfully. IF, indeed we have entered an age when such censorship is progressing; that's a very serious thing. I would be very interested in any examples of an actual censoring agenda.

I was remembering the derringer prints. I pulled the Western Pistol plans up today and scanned over them briefly. There was also a demension for the muzzle of the barrel, "The muzzle end of the barrel is tapered starting at the middle of the barrel length to a dia. of 5/8 inch at the muzzle" not counting the crown. Also the demension for the flat on the barrel where it mounts to the frame. "Draw file a flat on barrel 5/16 inch wide by 2-1/2 inches long to fit part 26".

These plans, I think, were more of a guideline for somebody with some gunsmithing and/or machinist experience to interpret as you see fit, than as cut and dried demensional drawings. Good luck with your build, please keep us apprised as to your progress.

Thanks for posting this, I agree with it. Do you have a web address for more info on this?? These plans are 36+ years old, so would not apply here...

I found a old thread about a member building a Jaco westerner pistol at the Home Gunsmith Forums:
The Post (http://www.homegunsmith.com/cgi-bin/ib3/ikonboard.cgi?;act=ST;f=3;t=17374)

You will probably need to register to view the thread. But that forum is worth registering.

Hi!
Didnt Jaco sell some drawings for Muzzleloader tools? I think I remember a straight filing support. I would like to have a copy, mine was lost many years and movings ago.

Anyone know?

Well, I dont have it. And I have searched for other Jaco books earlier, did find a mention to a blueing book but nothing else.
I'd say that the best bet would be trying to find some onewho owns the book and pursue him to scan it. Or atleast take some pictures with a camera.
