A link to a funny, at least I thought so :), video (rapping scientists) of the CERN's 17-Mile-Long Atom Smasher that comes online Wednesday. Could this be the end as some believe?

Honestly, I don't think it is the end. Just another excuse for the doom sayers to predict the end of the world.

At least when we do it, it has style and some kind of basis in truth. The kind of energies that the CERN reactor is working with just isn't large enough for blackholes/fabric-of-space-time-tearing.

I love that rap, it is fairly ingenuous, and sounds like something a couple of physics dudes would do to pass the time.

While you wait for the "end", have a look here (http://xkcd.com/401/). Gotta love XKCD.

I heard them talking about that rap on NPR last week. It was made by some physics grad student I believe. It passed the geek test, "the science was accurate" one of the CERN physicists being interviewed said.
