... because what you post is absolute nonsense.

Thionyl chloride is prepared by the following reaction:
SO2 + PCl5  --> SOCl2 + POCl3

Someone who knows a thing or two about chemistry will appreciate that this is no kitchen procedure  :P .

.... so what are you going to do? have a SO2 generator bubble through HCl??? SO2 is nasty shit, swim had his lab full of it a few months back, nasty acid spill... via stupidity...

So if that reaction worked it would be possible but shit it would be a danger filled one if not done correctly...

The common industrial method for producing thionylchloride is to treat SO2 or SO3 with SCl2 at 150°C to 250°C in the presence of activated carbon.
SO3 + SCl2 = SOCl2 + SO2
SO2 + SCl2 + Cl2 = 2SOCl2 (the chlorine comes from the SCl2 which is unstable and dissociates into S2Cl2 and Cl2)

S2Cl2 is formed by the direct combination of the elements.
SCl2 is formed by passing the correct amount of Cl2 into S2Cl2.
