morphine extraction expierience and questions

swim extracted morphine sulfate from capsules which contained little waxy balls, swim dissolved them in hot dH2O and then cooled the solution to precipitate the wax out. then swim basifies the solution with NaOH to ph9 and overnight crystals were formed. but some are on the top and some are on the bottom of the glass, why?

Probably because they formed there, and have a density similar to water.
