On a 1-10 scale, how good of source is this for a Al/hg?

Has anyone ever measured the thickness of the al for the cans?

What is that tool called provides measurements for such things?

If you needed say, 27 grams of THIN al, how would you accuratley go about finding out how much THICK al you would need without using that tool?

That would probably be OK but one must scrape the colour off the can before using it in Al/Hg red. ami.

I dont see how that would be a problem. Fly's, beetles, and ant's don't seem to fuck up the rxn, so I doubt that will, but I could be wrong..

The pop tab is supposedly the purest Aluminum. Thats why some non-profits collect the tabs as a fundraiser.

What's a pop tab?(never heard the word before)

Weedar

Me fail English?That's unpossible!

raffike

Me neither.
Probably something from USA.

pop tabs are the pull up part of the can. If you keep pulling the tab back and forth, it will snap off.

I bet an acid bath would clean off that paint from the can. Maybe a solvent even.

there's a big difference between criticizing your government and criticizing your country

foxy2

You know the little "lever" you pull to open a can of pop?

Its called a tab.

I bet one of these things weigh about .2 or .3 grams. One must drink pretty much if he wants to do 1000 grammer Al/Hg

about 27 grams.

Just drive by your local non-ferrous metal dealer and buy a big sheet of the thinnest Al he has. It's cheap. 0.25mm thickness works great.
Scraping off the paint of soda cans sounds like a pretty stupid way to spend an afternoon.

Os, do you mean .025?

Just got back from the hardware store (was there for lightbulbs) and out of curiosity, I checked out the sheet metal section. They had 6" - 18" (.025) for like 4 bucks each. I would think they made an error labeling each one, it's deffinelty not

[edit] actually, it's probably a 1/4 of a mm

Thnx! Was just curious.

0.25mm equals 0.01 inches

Here is a converter.

I forgot people still use metric. The LABEL on the AL slab reads (.025")

Thats twenty five hundreths of an (ahem) INCH  :)  :P   :)

KrZ used to recommend aluminum flashing, which is commonly available at Holme Despot and other fine hardware stores everywhere.

Al oven liners are perfect for 2 reasons.

1) they are flat rectangles, easier to cut up than dishes or pans
2) they are about 0.13mm (0.005"), a nice compromise between thick flashing (takes FOR-EVE-ER) and thin foil (look out, she's gonna blow).

Diggity

for-ev-errr as in 24 hours or so? Thats not to bad considering you can pretty much up and leave and return 24 hours later.

How much Hg would one use per 100g of (.25mm) sheet al?

Is micrometer the word your looking for?

It doesn't really matter how much. Just add some. I never weighted it. It will definitely need much less than the Al foil version needs.

I would say 1/4 the amount used, so maybe 400mg per 100g..

I would just think that when scaling up to a few hundered grams you would want to weigh it rather than eyeing it out. Too much Hg could be a bad thing, and too little will take foever and a day for the AL to amalgamate.. There should be a 100g rule for this thickness. I say it's 400mg per 100g!  :)  hehe, ok?
