alpha iodopropanoic acid (brief summary, read the 2 page .djvu!)

CuCl (0.5 mol equiv), CuCl2 (0.5 mol equiv), I2(1 mol equiv) and propanoic acid (excess) are mixed and reacted at 120°C for 6h under N2 atmosphere. Precipitated copper salts are filtered, excess acid is distilled off, product is recrystallized from hexane to afford a 90% yield based on I2.
