Chemistry ebooks ready for download
« on: January 02, 2003, 07:28:00 PM »
Hi!

I have scanned some chemistry ebooks and thought that they might be from interest for you. They're not all on organic chemistry, but you should like all fields of chemistry equally well  :)

book #1:
title: Practical Organic Chemistry
authors: Frederic George Mann, Bernard Charles Saunders
publisher: Longman
published: 1978
number of pages: 598
filesize: 29 MB

book #2:
title: Modern inorganic chemistry - an intermediate text
authors: C. Chambers, A. K. Holliday
publisher: The Butterworth Group
published: 1975
number of pages: 459
filesize: 19 MB

book #3:
title: Nitration and aromatic reactivity
author: J. G. Hoggett
publisher: Cambridge University Press
published: 1971
number of pages: 252
filesize: 11 MB

The books are PDF files which are compressed with WinACE archiver. The PDF file is composed of bitmaps, with the OCR'ed text laying beneath the images, thereby making them completely searchable.

Since good webspace is rare, I can only offer you a download by Streamload. It works as follows:
Sign up for a free

Streamload account

Give me your streamload username (post it in this thread or send me an email) and I'll streambeam the books to you. Afterwards, you will be able to download them.

Note:
You have a 50 MB quota on Streamload. In order to download all three books (59 MB), you can do one of the following:
- Wait until your quota has been automatically reset after one week.
- Create a second Streamload account, send one of the files to this account and download it from there.
- Upgrade your streamload account for a fee of $4.95 / month and get a quota of 1000 MB. Anonymous transaction is possible.

I don't think filesharing programs would be a good idea because they do only work if many people share a certain file, what is not the case. They are also insecure.

Good one guys, your names and addresses are now a
rubber-stamped subpoena away from being under the eyes
of the spooks, unless that is you took all the proper
precautions while using that service, which I doubt.

Although I don't think that the results of this carelessness (which is at least partially my fault) are as devastating as you say, the manner in which the books were distributed lead to risks that could have been avoided.
In my next release (which will be very soon btw) I will only accept PMs which tell me a new streamload username which do not contain parts of the hive username of the respective user.

Sorry Disciple, but I don't think that I'll upload this books to some webspace, since I'm quite short in time and the filesize is larger than that of Advanced Organic Synthesis. This would probably result in the fact that they'd be kicked quite fast and the work was for nothing.
Anyway, I'll gladly send those files to your streamload account!

Rhadon......and everyone else

Paul N. Rylander: "Hydrogenation Method"

...........a great book to have . What are the chances of getting this book uploaded  this would be an asset to any bee's refrence library. In this book may be some answers to hydrogenating  amino acid alcohol  to simplyfy the conversion of phenylalanine >>by (sodiumborohydride)>>amino acid>>>by hydrogenation.and a catalyst?.>>>>amphetamine........

So the info will be well used by the bee's.......give it a try!

If there are other bees that are interested in Hydrogenation Methods I will scan it, provided that the pages and size allow me to do so. The book may not be too large since I'm very busy, so if anyone else could do the job... If you need help or have any questions, just contact me and I'll gratefully give instructions if needed!

Karel + Rhadon

Is there a chance that you could post these books to usenet please?

news:alt.binaries.e-book.technical  is a good place to put them.  They can be downloaded by anyone. Especially since everyone here can get a free trial easynews <www.easynews.com> account for 3 days and the files will stay on easynews for about 10 days.

I've not been able to get a streamload account set up. It keeps giving me an error.

Alternatively that ftp site looks like it will work as well.

Lots of these look good. I would like:

Compendium of Organic Synthetic Methods 9
Cycloaddition Reactions in Organic Synthesis
Common Fragrance and Flavor Materials
Chiral Separation Techniques
Organic Reaction Mechanisms 1997
The Nitro Group in Organic Synthesis
The Diels-Alder Reaction
Enzyme Systems that Metabolise Drugs
Enzymes: A Practical Introduction
Homogenous Catalysis
Organic Synthesis Workbook II

and

Practical Organic Chemistry (Mann & Saunders)

I'm sorry to say that, but I'm quite short in time and don't want to bother with usenet just for the files to be online ten days or so  ::) . But I'll gladly help you to get the books which I have on my streamload account. I can do that if anyone needs it. What error do you get?

I've just come to the idea that some of you might appreciate the German translation of Aldous Huxley's book The doors of perception ("Die Pforten der Wahrnehmung"). If you want it, you can download it from

X-Mail

(http://www.x-mail.net): Login with username aldous and password huxley, then download the attachment of the email.

English-speaking bees can view the book at

Erowid

(http://www.erowid.org/psychoactives/writings/huxley_doors.shtml) in html format. Not as enjoyable to read as my PDF, but it's the content that counts  ;D .

Aah, I didn't await any more answers to this thread!
