Sodium Cyanide Via Hoffman ?

Has any body ever used the Hoffman isonitrile synthesis to make sodium cyanide ?

The questions I have are :

Does the reaction need to be carried out without any water ?

Would the ammonia have to be dissolved in the alcohol ?
