Regarding EDTA: I could really use this information. What amount would be needed for ketone. Just a saturated solution? There are still too much copper compounds left in undistilled ketone even after 6 to 8 a/b washes.

Each molecule of EDTA complexes one copper atom. I don't know how much copper there is in your solution.

what about ammonia? Doesnt ammonia complex with copper ions also?

Yes, just not as strongly. Ammonia would react with MDP2P though.

Just to remember you that the CTH reductive amination with ammnonium formate and Pd/C on MDP2P has shown to give high yields of MDA, check my post about it.
