Title: Prices on Silver
Post by: Vaaguh on May 15, 2004, 03:55:00 PM
What would be a normal price per gram for Silver metal?

The lowest prices i was able to find is 10 G for like 250 Euro / 295.051 USD.

Are these prices normal or am i being overcharged here?

Title: How pure do you need the metal to be?
Post by: Rhodium on May 15, 2004, 05:53:00 PM
That depends a lot on the purity - the more decimals after the 99.x % the more expensive it is. Sterling 925 (jeweller's silver) is 92.5% silver and 7.5% copper in most cases, and if that is good enough for you, the price is a tenth of your quote.

Title: ah that would be pure enough

thanks for the tip, that would most likeley bee pure enough.

( a bit off topic)
Currently there is 5mmol 2c-h + 10 mmol silver sulfate + 10 mmol i2 stirring, lets hope things are gonna be good after 17 hours.

Be sure to let us know how much 2C-I is yielded  :P
Silver metal? silver sulfate? Could it be that swi-you is trying to avoid paying large amounts of $$ for silver sulfate?  ;D  Is this possible?

Title: even cheaper than that
Post by: Polverone on May 16, 2004, 07:27:00 AM
1/10 that price would be about US $30 for 10 grams. A few weeks ago I got 62 grams (2 troy ounces) of 99.9% silver for US $12, in the form of bullion coins. It would have been a bit cheaper if I were willing to buy larger quantities at a time. Look for a coin dealer that has bullion coins/bars. Lab suppliers' prices for simple silver salts are ridiculous.

you just look at the prices for metals on the current market.

SILVER

Silver USD/oz:                        $ 5.69

It's as cheap as 3 tins of baked beans mate. Precious metal dealer is the place to visit to invest.

Looks like it's a buyers market for palladium at the moment too. If you've ever had the interest in getting some of this metal for whatever reasons now looks like a decent time to invest.

The Auzzie palladium coins are cool.

this one gives daily updates via email of metal prices. Ag, Au, Pd and Pt. They only have Ag and Au coins though.
Title: I love precious metals.
Post by: Osmium on May 20, 2004, 12:28:00 AM
I love precious metals. Right now I have silver, platinum, gold, palladium, ruthenium and iridium at home. Iridium kicks ass, it's soo damn heavy. I think I'm going to get more of it. I recently thought I would run out of iridium which I needed for a project I was working on. Until I weighted it. It looked like an estimated 4-5 grams or so, but actually it was over 30grams (sub-micron sized powder) in that tiny bottle it was stored in. Fucking cool stuff. I want more.

That is a common problem for most of us ;)
