Title: Amination of L-PAC
Post by: malvaxman on October 26, 2001, 01:40:00 AM
To methylaminate L-PAC to get ephedrine one must use reductive amination or some similar method. Converting L-PAC
to 1-phenyl-1-hydroxy-propan-2-amine should be more easy, just: Ph-CH(OH)C(=O)CH3 + NH3 --> Ph-CH(OH)C(=NH)CH3
Ph-CH(OH)C(=NH)CH3 + H2O ---> Ph-CH(OH)CH(NH2)CH3

Could someone please tell me how the converting of keton to amine should be done technicaly. I have seen many papers on reduktive amination but no one yet on this reaction. Should the amonia be anydrous gas, or is possible with amonia(aq)? I know the yelds are low, about 30%, but by removing the product it should be possible to get more out of the reaction shouldn´t it? Is there any name of
Ph-CH(OH)CH(NH2)CH3 (as Ph-CH(OH)C(NHCH3)CH3 is ephedrine)?
I know this qustions are not very high-tech but I would be happy to get an answer. Thanx! :)

Look at any synth of meth from P2P or any synth of MDMA/MDA from MDP2P.  Adjust for the different molecular weight and procede from there.

These are ALL OVER RHODIUMS site, and The HIVE.
