Demethylation of 3,4,5-trimethoxybenzaldehyde

Just discovered that thread(because spice was looking at it :P).
One can demethylate this aldehyde at 4- with finely divided sodium metal in THF, stirring for 24h.
Then it can directly, either be hydrolysed with water to give 3,5-dimethoxybenzaldehyde, or one-pot, be methylated at the same position with for example methyl iodide.
This will lead to the precursor for DESOXY.

I know because once I bought 3,4,5-TMBA with exact that application in mind... but then I found it easier to buy the 3,5-DMBA directly and just made mescaline from the TMBA :D
