Title: 4-HO dipt, aldehyde adapthions, psilocin metabolic
Post by: psycosmo on August 30, 2001, 04:28:00 AM
Was reading an old 60's article about the metabolic pathway for psilocin synthesis, and it hypothesized that Does anyone know if the tryptamine + formaldehyde + reducing agent DMT synth can be adapted to use other aldehydes to make other tryptamines?
the Hydroxy group is added after decarboxylation ot tryptophan and nn dimethylation. If there is a stability problem with 4-Ho tryptamine ore indole this might solve it.
Perhapse 4-HO DIPT could be made by as follows

Tryptamine + isopropyl aldehyde -----> DIPT
DIPT+????? -------->4-HO DIPT

isopropyl aldehyde

That stuff is quite rare and hard to obtain.

If its relevent I found isopropyl aldehyde for sale from several major chemical suppliers ("FOUND 10 suppliers selling 10 products")

Today is opposites day.  Everything I say, I mean the opposite.

This is the only google hit for isopropylaldehyde:

And it seems like it would only introduce a tert-butyl group when used in reductive amination...

I should have put a  ;)  at the end of my sentence. My guess is that when he says "isopropyl aldehyde", what he really means is acetone.
