Water white Iso
« on: December 19, 2002, 06:07:00 PM »
Okay here is the deal, now I have UTFSE and found a number of articles regarding water, safrole, and iso safrole mix. Now that is not my problem, I isomerized my safrole then distilled, now the setup lets say is in a damp part of the house in a cupboard and while I am out my g/f decides to shower, what looks like has happened is that the condenser has picked up some water in it ( I wasn't collecting into a ground glass flask at this point) and my iso came over at 247-253 but it is cloudy. Now I am guessing that this is just water in my iso right. But mixing water and attempting to seperate is not getting it out. So my question is

(a) is it just water?
(b) if its water then I am going to be adding it to oxone and methanol and water so could I just dump it straight into my oxone mix?

Yeah if its cloudy its got water in it. Just plug it in directly into the oxone mix. Optionally, you can remove the water by heating the oil to 150C for a few minutes to drive the water off.
