I belive it was Ritter that said it produces less tar. Experience that I've witnessed actually found it a real pain in the ass compared to MeOH. The reasons were 2) The catylist takes days compared to hoursĀ  with methanol to completely dissolve (even when heated externally). Since the IPA tends not want to dissolve the catylist easily upon flooding the post wacker with water the IPA/water mix seems to allow more of the residual catylist migrate towards the toluene leaving a more dirty colored ketone. MeOH wackers come out brighter and lighter. I belive MeOH also cuts down on reaction time.
