question on nitrogen tank
« on: March 27, 2004, 08:21:00 AM »
I'm wondering if the nitrogen tanks used for paintball guns would be pure enough to be used as an inert atmosphere during the hydrazine mothod for produceing lsd, and is there an easy (or cheap) way to test its purity ?

For inert atmospheres in general argon is better because its heavier than air and more likely to "sit" where you want it.  Its used in welding.

Hey now,

I recomend getting a low pressure nitrogen tank so you dont purge the whole flask contents all over the room.

I have always experienced nitrogen to be bottled in high pressure tanks, never in low, but I don't know. I suggest getting a high pressure argon tank with a regulator and doing all reactions inside a sealed glove box.
