Sodium carbonate is Na₂CO₃, and sodium bicarbonate NaHCO₃, i.e. different.

No, that are two different compounds. Sodium bicarbonate is also known as sodium hydrogencarbonate (NaHCO₃) and sodium  carbonate is, well, sodium carbonate (Na₂CO₃).
