Title: Dopamine or Tyramine Synthesis
Post by: Dysprosium on December 19, 2003, 02:40:00 AM
Sorry to be a bother, does anyone know a place to find either synth, ive looked and only have found biological routes. If purchase is feasible tell me and ill devote some more time into looking if synthesis is too dificult, hopefully this is within rules i dont need an exact source.

They can be had by synthesizing 3,4-methylenedioxyphenethylamine or 4-methoxyphenethylamine and then dealkylate the aromatic substituents with refluxing with 48% HBr.

What is your intended use for the substances?

Hmm thats sound like too much work for the simple purposes i have which is comparing the alkaloid contents of 2 san pedro, one being doped with dopamine preferibly, tyramine if nesesary.
I wanna start with one of those but could always use tyrosine which is more easily had but thats getting far up the mescaline cycle and risking not getting valid results at the time of extraction if most of the extraction is really unused tyrosine.

It would also be possible to decarboxylate Dopa or Tyrosine, for example by using any of these procedures:

Here are some articles on tyramine synthesis

Title: Decarboxylation of tyrosine?
Post by: methymouse on January 09, 2004, 01:59:00 PM
Both tyrosine and L-Dopa are fairly available. I know at least tyrosine can be purchased in a powder form for something like $10/oz.  L-dopa can be extracted from some kind of plant which is also rather available.  TFSE or Google should turn up the information.  These could then be decarboxylated (to tyramine and dopamine resp.) by heating with a ketone catalyst in a high boiling point solvent. Look at student's spearmint catalyzed decarboxylation of tryptophan in turpentine on Rhodium's site. I expect that it should work similarly for phenylalanines like tyrosine.  The only concern which comes to mind is that the hydroxyl group(s) might oxidize at those temperatures (at least on L-dopa this seems likely).  I think that none of this is necessary, though, since tyrosine is part of the biosynthesis of mescaline, at least in peyote. See

Be sure to wait a long time before harvesting, since otherwise you'll get mainly whatever you injected into the cactus  :P .  Tyrosine has its purposes (for example, it seems to help with amphetamine hangovers), but certainly lacks the sparkle of mescaline  ;D

I missed Rhodium's post above.  Sorry about any redundancy...

Title: Dopamine via. Vanillin.
Post by: amine on January 09, 2004, 10:24:00 PM
Edit: n/m there are easier methods posted above.

Dopamine is 3,4-dihydroxy-phenethylamine.

Why not demethylate the 3-methoxy group on vanillin via the pyridine.hcl/microwave method.

then condense via nitomethane
reduce via your favorite reducing agent.
