(Sassafras+HCL)--NaI->MDx All Otc

Swim was wondering if It wwould be possible to clorinate safrole with a saturated (Aq)Hcl In DMSO.  then take the clorosafrole and do a finkelstien halogen swap with OTC iodised table salt to form idiosafrole.  Swim does not anticipate this being a problem since the Cl in the mix would not cause any problems.  The proper way to execute the halogen swap would be to dissolve the clorosafrole in acetone with iodised table salt and refluxed, correct?  Then flooded with water to remove the NaCl.  If pure NaI was used it is just going to be converted to NaCl any ways isn't it.  Will the Idiosafrole be stable for distillation?  What temp will it come over,?The idosafrole can then be refluxed with Hexamine or methylamine in methanol to yeild their respective MDAmines     ;)  ;)

HCl does not add easily to safrole, you need an excess of HCl and a PTC (see my halosafrole document on my page). Iodized table salt contains very little NaI (or NaIO3) and is of no use. A finkelstein swap of Chlorosafrole/NaI/acetone would work though. Iodosafrole would probably distill at about 150-160°C at aspirator vacuum. Some dehydrohalogenation would probably occur if not a high vacuum is used.

A finkelstein swap

Finkelstein!!! So strange, swic had never heard of this rxn until about a week ago, and since then he's heard it been mentioned 3 times. Just goes to show knowledge is a great thing.

The Swap reaction has been covered for ages now. In the complete book of Xtacy on Rhodium's page there is a detailed procedure of the reaction using Chlorosaf / NaI / Acetone.

Just read a bit.

One more thing..........READ THROUGH ALL THE DOCS ON RHOD's PAGE BEFORE YOU FIND YOURSELF ASKING STUPID QUESTIONS!!

That place has a lot more info than most think! 8)

That's an understatement.
