Post by: JonE on February 29, 2000, 09:32:00 AM
Is DMF a tough chemical to acquire? And wouild it be better just to use Formamide in place of DMF for Bright Star's synthesis.

Yes, dimethylformamide, diethylformamide and formamide are all ok to use as a solvent for ketone production ala Brightstar (says so in the synth, btw). But, easier yet... it's also possible to use MeOH as the solvent.

Just about an polar aprotic solvent should work, though your yeild might suffer. But, if you are going to use alcohol, use Isopropanol.

I was wondering how somone would alter bright star if they wanted to use MeOH as a solvent.
