Title: 5-MeO-DMT synth, is this correct?

Swim was wondering if this would be a functional 5-MeO-DMT synth:
Melatonin was refluxed with excess NaOH in ether (not THF, but come on, THF is cyclic ether, shouldn't make that much of a difference, or?) for 6 hours.  The 5-MeO-T was then exposed to excess MeI and allowed to react for ~30 minutes (It shouldn't take that long, but swim doesn't know the reaction rate, so longer is safer).  Afterwards, the salt was extracted into an aqueous environment and refluxed with ethanolamine for ~15-25 minutes.  The solution was basified and the 5-MeO-DMT was placed into Ether, and HCl(g) was bubbled through the solution to yield 5-MeO-DMT crystals. 
Sound viable?

Sorry, in the first step I said that the melatonin would be refluxed in ETHER I meant pure IPA.  Side question: would either 70% IPA or 95% EtOH work for this step?  Would make swim's life easier.
