Title: Glass blowing studio
Post by: Topologist on August 30, 2002, 07:20:00 PM
A glas blowing studio in your city will sell suplies.  The big orange H***e d***t  also will order glass tubing for you, and they sometimes have it in stock.  Most glass blowers shops that have an actual blower at them, will sell you some tubing, even if they generally don't.  Gotta think that you know some ppl who blow glass though.

Neon signs are made by means of glass blowing, there should be a signmaking shop around somewhere  :)

But neon signs aren't constructed from borosilicate glass, I believe that they are made with a lime or leaded glass.

As long as one isn't heating the glass tubing, there's no need for borosilicate glass in the stated application  :)  The stopper allows for the minor amount of heat expanion  :)  Borosilicate glass wasn't available for many years, such glass was used for every operation in days of yore  ;D

True, which is a serious safety hazard during many operations using flammable organic solvents, but that's a lot different than using OTC glass tubing that works just fine  ;D  It's a lot easier to bend and shape than pyrex, since it can bee done with a propane torch  ;D
