80% Acetic Acid good for Peracetic acid ?
« on: June 22, 2004, 01:18:00 AM »
SWIM have access to some inexpensive Acetic Acid 80% and is wondering if it can be used to prepare peracetic acid according to Chromic write-up.

Original write-up calls for 30.2g H2O2 35%, 29.0g glacial acetic acid and 0.6g conc sulfuric acid.

Does SWIM need to put some more acetic acid (1.25 time more)and leave everything else the same ?

albeit the concentration of peracetic acid in the solution will be lower, so you should use more of it. UTFSE for posts by Chromic on this subject and you will be able to calculate what your concentration will be.

Another option is obtaining 50% H2O2..
