Swicp wasn't out to get negative comments.  Swicp has used the search engine extensively before posting any questions. As stated, have read many many threads and have seen different opinions on this question, so thought might just try asking for a little advice.....sorry

TIPS:
>Use this ratio (1)E, (1.2)I2, (0.7)RP
>Do a long, wet reflux - 100 C for 24-48 hours
>The reaction will be done when the small bubbles become bigger, and the RP will quickly precipitate upon diluting the mixture with an equal volume of water.

The final consistancy refering to bubblegum was mainly indicated when doing dryer rxns. The3 amount of initial dh2o will affect the consistancy.
The long wet will still bee rather liquidy when complete if the excess h2o isn't afforded an opportumity to bee cooked off!
If cooking for 48hours @ 100C and the ratio is correct, there is NO need to look for signs of completion. It will be done!
ALWAYS add more i2 than e!
1g E: 2g i2: .75g RP: ½ml dh2o
Excess dh20 added will dilute the mix and take longer to reduce.
1g run will need 8-10drops dh2o.
20drops = ~1ml
Peace of the reaction
