Post by: topdowner on April 20, 2004, 01:27:00 PM
Hi,

i need your help, please... :P

i have a vacuum-pump that pulls a maximum of 500mbar. I mean from 1013mbar. now my queation. i have made p2p fom phenylacetic acid sodium acetate and acetic acid anhydride.

now i want to distill the p2p. I have took before the nomograph here it is...

https://www.thevespiary.org/rhodium/Rhodium/chemistry/equipment/nomograph.html (https://www.thevespiary.org/rhodium/Rhodium/chemistry/equipment/nomograph.html)

i have drew a line from 375 torr to 215°C (P2P) and the p2p must distill at 185°C. I have made it but I only get the acetic acid anhydrid. what did i wrong.

The p2p made I after a synthesis of the book from otto snow.

Phenyl acetic acid sodium acetate and acetic acid anhydrid. Heatet for 18h at 150°C. After that distill only the p2p.

thx for all replys

Here is the proper procedure:

https://www.thevespiary.org/rhodium/Rhodium/chemistry/phenylacetone.html#phenylacetic (https://www.thevespiary.org/rhodium/Rhodium/chemistry/phenylacetone.html#phenylacetic)

Naturally the excess acetic anhydride will distill first, it has a lower boiling point.
