What was the temp it started at?
Ibee would lower the heat as CBP suggested to 120°C and let reflux for at least 12hrs.
If the volume doubled already in the flask than conversion may have already started or the heat was Cranked UP way high. The violence and blowing off the condensor tell Ibee that the heat was high!
The method described suggests that a mindset was already set at shorter cook time.
Ibee won't try to shift that mindset too much and suggest how to arrive at comparable product to that sought after but slightly better than if one were to pull it at the suggested mark.
Since it's not known how much dh2o was added to begin with or the size rxn, add .25ml dh2o(¼-ml) per every gram started with minus the amount dh2o added in the beginning, just put the condensor back on.
Cook at 120°C for 12 hours
That simple!
Cooking longer than 12 won't hurt and since conversion started already, this added cook time is just to cook of any intermediates created!
