--- Quote ---The US Food and Drug Administration have approved the first drug that has been created using 3D printing technology, according to the drug's manufacturer Aprecia Pharmaceuticals.
SPRITAM (levetiracetam) has been approved in the form of a dissolvable pill for the treatment of seizures among people with epilepsy. By combining 3D-printing technology with a highly-prescribed epilepsy treatment, SPRITAM is designed to fill a need for patients who struggle with their current medication experience.
This is the first in a line of central nervous system products Aprecia plans to introduce as part of our commitment to transform the way patients experience taking medication.

I cannnot wrap my head around how you can 'print' molecules.
Scarecrow:
Surely this is talking about just using pre-made substances as the 3D printer substrate and its just printing it onto a pill, as opposed to printing atoms together?

the inside of the 3-D printer should theoretically look like
and that blue arrows pointing to cables that transfer heat efficiently from an electrically powered stirrer hot plate (the blue thing in the bottom middle of the picture) to the chemical reaction in the flask
Lipbalm:
I still don't get it. Now I feel old. The new generation is already making me feel dumb. I should just put myself out to pasture now.
