Title: Acetone Enolate via lithium
Post by: timsong on November 30, 2001, 03:56:00 PM
Can the sodium metal in the procedure for making Acetone Enolate be substitutes with lithium metal, or will the lithium ethoxide not be strong enough (if there is such a thing as lithium ethoxide ?)

Lithium is okay to use, but it is the anion that is critical. I don't know if ethoxide is a strong enough base, but tert-butoxide certainly is, and perhaps isopropoxide is.
