amphetamines through rp/hi ??
« on: August 25, 2004, 03:15:00 AM »
I used TFSE and couldn’t find any thing on this subject nor any thing on rhodium’s website
I want to know if norephedrine (and pseudonorephedrine) can be reduced in reasonable (+50%) yields
I can’t see why not, I just fear that some how the extra methane off the amine in ephedrine is important to the reaction

Amino alcohol reduction with RP/I.....
« Reply #3 on: August 25, 2004, 06:25:00 PM »
Well first of all this is an amino alcohol , your compound is the benzylic type amino alcohol , therefore the RP/ method can be used with the right solvent . If your compound is soluble in water then use standard RP/I method ......java

Something Maybe Worth Looking At ?
« Reply #4 on: August 25, 2004, 06:40:00 PM »
Over in Novel Discourse, on the second page, Most Interesting CTH Reaction Ever Documented. The patent's expiremental section uses HI and Norephedrine to get D-amphetamine(I belive its near the top), they even have a table showing the different yields from various cook times.
I found the artical interisting, maybe it will help?

Java: I clicked on the patent tag, and it brought up a device called a "Marking Atachment For Corn Planters", I dont know what the fuck that even is. The patent I was reffering to is US6399828(Preperation of Amphetamines From Phenylpropanolamines). Im sorry for not linking it but, frankly I dont know how. One of these days I will get off my lazy ass and learn, isnt there something in the Newbee or General Discourse forum, in a Digest that tells you how to do it?

P.S. To anybody who Looks at the Patent, look at that nifty table they have that shows how much is converted after so many hours. Its one of the most convincing reasons I have ever seen for using the LWR.

P.P.S. Thanks for trying to help me out with the Patent, the effort was truly apreciated.

wonderful

So in theory norephedrine can be just used in place of ephedrine and all should work out ok
Excellent news
I would imagine that a higher yield than was achieved in the patent could be reached because they would be less interested in making the reaction look good as making theirs better

You are pobably right, I never thought about that. After your reaction, could you please post your yields. I am curious as to how well it works in the real world.

Thanks

if u managed to get or extract de-methyl-ephedrine...in the hi/p reduction ull get amphetamine since the meth group is not present in the main ingredient.

anyway good luck getting norephedrine...for wut ive heard it is slowly being removed from selling since many people had heart attack and other heart fukups from it.

Not every thing has to be made by some one...

Not every thing has to be made by some one else
If you look around this site you can find many syntheses for it
It’s remarkably easy
Only problem is it will be not be just D isomer unless heavy cleaning but hey when you’re talking not too much over $100 for half a kg
