Methylamine.HCl disposal
« on: October 07, 2003, 09:24:00 AM »
P has no further use for his methylamine, over 4 kg, and was wondering the best way to dispose of it,other than aminating something.P doesn't want to just dump it,nor take it to a toxic waste place and tell them what it is.P also doesn't want to lie to the waste guys what it is....if it comes into contact with the right stuff to make a very large and nasty cloud it could hurt someone badly. Can P neutralize it in some way,and then dump it? And please don't PM P asking to buy it.Thanks..

I can't believe it, why would anyone dispose of such a chemical?
Fucking bury it somewhere, who knows when you will find a use for it.

C for the tip, will look into it more and do that.As for selling it , P just wanted to make something quality for P and friends, not become a dealer.P has a successful import business, and needs no heat.
And Osmium,P appreciates your concern at P's blasphemy, but P has 200g of finished product, and that should last The Harem a long, long time.P just wants to make a similar amount of MDA and is then retired from this forever.
P is in the import business; with P's  connections,to lay hands on that,or anything else,is a matter of sending 2 emails-the courier would have it at P's in 2 or 3 days...

Sorry to whine, but i emplore you not to dump the methylamine HCl into the drains.  It may not hurt you....but when the effluent hits your local water treatment plant, it is going to cause problems for the bacteria that do a lot of the breaking down of waste.

Perhaps make enquiries at your local university chemistry department about how to dispose of some chemicals that you found in the garage of the "house you just bought".

Otherwise (and im not fishing here honest)....why not hide it somewhere where it wont be found, then either tell a bee you trust where it is - OR - make a anonymous phonecall to your local cops telling them you saw something suspicious where you hid it....they will HAVE to dispose of it properly....obviously make sure its clean of prints etc first (hexane is VERY good for this).

Drain

Wash it down the drain. A few kg of NH3 or MeNH2 won't hurt the bacteria any... neither will a few liters of acetone, isopropanol, or whatever other water-miscible organic solvent you can think of.

If you had a few kg of HgCl2, or a few liters of of perchloroethylene it would be a COMPLETELY different story in safely disposing those toxic chemicals.

It sounds to me like P is fishing big time.

P has no further use for his methylamine, over 4 kg,

Dilute it well and dump it down a sanitary sewer system.  Shouldn't cause probalems for any large waste treatment plants.  Or if ya want to bee more careful dump it incrememtally on different days, thereby eliminateing any large plug of methylamine in the system.
