Title: Ether/Amine Drying Agents

What is the best method for drying an amine/ether solution?

Will using Jt baker 85%KOH to dry ether/amine do any damage to the freebase?Ie. over basification.  Will the 15% h20 in the KOH have to be removed to render it proper for drying?

Ether is nice to work with it seperates quick and it makes you feel funny if you watchtoo close  ;)

It won't hurt MDA, MDMA or methamphetamine.

No, the water that is present in the pellets as they come from the bottle is not a problem.

As Chromic says, anhydrous MgSO4 is better. It is quicker because it has more surface area than the KOH pellets.

Do not use CaCl2 or even silica gel or alumina.

Especially do not use Anhydrone!!

Since the ether will not dissolve much H2O any way,  and it would be distilled imediatly prior to use the only H2O present will probably from trace ammounts in the amine.  will pouring it 2x through a funel loadeed with MgSo4 be sufficet or will there be some sitting requierd.

Also is anhydrous HCL gas Clear or does it form a cloud. Swim wants some crrystals that don't need acetone.

Ether can hold several percent (7 I think) of water!

It is ALWAYS advisable to let the drying agent sit in the solvent to limit losses.

The gas itself is invisible, but it forms a cloud with moisture.

Swim has just realized that in all the failed gassing attempts the problem was the moisture in the HCL.  A longer drying tube is in order.  the acetone was to remove excess HCL from h2o/hcl extraction to afford shiny white crystals instead of beige.Purpose of the post was to make sure that any of the common drying agents would not react with ether as it does with copper. thank you much

CuCl2 reacts with AMINES not ether
