Elemicin isomerization?
« on: November 30, 2002, 11:20:00 PM »
How receptive would the elemicin molecule be to isomerization with KOH?  Would it end up as a big fat hairy ball of tar, or would it actually isomerize?  Has anyone actually tried it?

It is seductive, way too seductive.             -Eleusis

Gildermeister and Hoffman in Die Ätherischen Öle 3d Ed, Vol I, 618 determined that the boiling point of isoelemicin is 155-6°C at 10mm Hg and it's density is 1.073  :) [image]
