Title: Questions on VE's gassing method
Post by: jammin on May 13, 2004, 08:18:00 AM
I was reveiwing VE's gassing method and wondered if one could just as easily use another drying agent like magnesiumheptahydrate?

Shouldnt that work?

Having only experience with the artistic and creative release of my own digestive gasses I've recently been having inner questions along the same lines only theoretically using freshly rebaked silica gel granules to substitute for the calcium chloride.

Title: Polyethylen ?

Hey guys !
I'm just a newbee and wondered whether you could use a Wash Bottle made of Polyethylen (would that work fine with the HCL?) In VideoEditors thread it doesn't say anything about Polyethylen so i hope you can help me.
Thanks

-ChemoSabe
Silica gel works nicely for that purpose.

Polyethylen is not damaged by HCl. In fact, it is inert to most chemicals, that is why it is widely used in organic labs.

MgSO4 will dry HCl to produce a dry gas. It will not do it as quickly or as well as CaCl2.

Go buy some Damp Rid. Its not expensive, and it is worth every penny.
