How Available Are These?
« on: January 31, 2002, 10:38:00 PM »
I was wondering how available from chemical suppliers, these chemicals are:

2,5-dimethoxy-benzoic acid
3,4-methylenedioxy-benzoic acid
3,4,5-trimethoxy-benzoic acid

I just thought of something hilarious. In a certain mastermind plot, there is a possibility of a reaction designed for amphetamines, producing a byproduct that is easily transformed into a reagent for the same reaction, to yield the corresponding phenethylamine.  ;D

What I mean is: X + B1 --> X Amphetamine + C
and C easily --> B2
for X + B2 --> X phenethylamine + K

Man that is hilarious.

So yea, how easy is it to buy these reagents?  :P

And now I add, with the help Os gave me regarding alkylations, what about the unalkylated acids?

If the etherified acids are not available, are the polyphenolic acids suspicious?

3,4,5-trimethoxy-benzoic acid is an aricle of commerce, as is its unmethylated triphenol "gallic acid". 3,4-Methylenedioxybenzoic acid is most often called Piperonylic acid, and hundreds of suppliers can be found via Google. 2,5-dimethoxy-benzoic acid and its diphenol "gentisic acid" is more rarely occurring.

Hey rhodium, Can nitropropane be made into anything useful say with a p2 in there phenyl-2nitrop?

Yes, definitely. The reaction of a substituted benzaldehyde with 1-nitropropane forms a phenyl-2-nitrobutene, which is the immediate precursor to BDB, MBDB, Ariadne and all the compounds in Pihkal starting with 4C- something.

The methamphetamine analog (made from phenyl-2-nitrobutene) is 10x weaker than ordinary amphetamine, so the four-carbon side-chain is only interesting in the world of psychedelics and entactogens though.
