Synthesis of Aromatic Aldehydes by means of benzyl halides and sodium salts of nitropropane.
A Hass-Bender Rxn:

ArCH2X +  (CH3)2C=NO2-Na+-(25-80°C, abs. EtOH)-> intermediate--> aldehyde (70-80%yeild)

where Ar: just about any sub. you can think of.
