Title: 3 Questions about N-methyl-MDA
Post by: Occumz_Razor on January 14, 2003, 05:13:00 PM
On page 79 of Michael V. Smith's book on Psychedelic Chemistry its talks about the synthesis of MDA. At the beginning of the paragraph it mentions using N-methyl foramide instead of foramide to get N-methyl-MDA, which he claims is more euphoric than coke w/ a better come down. My first question is, has anyone every tried this synthesis and is it worth it? Second, in the recipe it says after the extraction of 3,4 methlenedioxybenzyl-methyl ketone you can distill (115/2).  Does this mean you can distill it at 115 degrees celcius two times just for purification reasons or what?? My last question is can petroleum ether or xylene be used instead of diethyl ether or benzene, I suspect they can but I thought I'd ask anyway. Also, one more thing, can hardware store acetone be used for most synthesis??
Thanks for the help.

N-Me-MDA = MDMA  ;D

There is a whole bunch of information and writeups concearning every single detail you can possibly think to be found either on www.rhodium.ws or by using TFSE.

The "115/2" designates 115°C at 2 mmHg vacuum. Hardware store acetone should be fine for most projects, just dry it first. Different non-polar solvents can often be used interchangeably, but sometimes not. Experience tells you when & why. You can in practically all instances substitute benzene with toluene, if an old synth calls for it (unless the benzene is a reactant).
