I know this has been discussed before... not meaning to annoy you all. I just wondered recently whether lactic acid may be chlorinated by cyanuric chloride to afford 2-chloropropionyl chloride in one synth. Would be nice, don't you think? As we know CC is able to easily generate acyl chlorides, and it sounds like a hell of a chlorinating agent for alcohols (there is some literature on it).
Well, I guess I should try this by myself. I will as soon as I get hold of some CC... like in 2 weeks.
Sorry for not posting refs, but how do you actually include links to other posts?
Ahh, the chloropropionyl chloride could be used in an elegant cathinone-type compund synthesis. Friedel-Crafts and then just stick the methylamine.
