Title: OrganicSynthesis P2NP
Post by: interested on January 28, 2004, 06:54:00 PM
Swim is wondering if anybee out there has actually dreamt up P2NP using the method described in the following link?

Obviously nitroethane would be used in place of nitromethane.

I can tell you definitively that this procedure works with nitromethane exactly as described.  Also, tried it with what I thought was nitroethane, but after the synth failed it was determined that I had something other than nitroethane.  -zero

Unfortunately, it doesnt seem likely that this cold method works for phenyl-2-nitropropenes, according to several exprieces :

:(

Edit: Whoops, nitropopenes I ment, for nitrostyrenes its well established...

I assume you meant to say phenylnitropropenes rather than 'nitrostyrenes' in your post above, right?

It works good for 3,4-Methylenedioxyphenyl-2-nitropropene though:
