Title: heatin' up the benzo
Post by: Archaeoptrix on February 24, 2001, 03:52:00 PM
Alright...

Sometime in the past I read of one of us heating their benzo up 'real good' in the middle of their reaction (post addition) and they believed it improved their yield.  So I'm writing to pose this question to us all...should we explore heating the benzo post addn. rxn. up to get an idea on how heating this rxn. might improve yield?

that is all...a

Methyl Man had a thread called time-streamlined benzo. Heating accelerates the rxn shortening time to 3-4hrs, but i don't recall that it improved yeilds. could be wrong

Yields are a little worse doing the 3hr run, but not much.  Once it hits 70 your methanol will be slightly boiling, just leave it at the same temp for 3 hours, and it even works.  I'm still a stickler for a longer, 6.5hr run though.

that shit be slamatocious
